VVitchour #1 - Let's begin
So, hi! This is the start of my devlog of some sort. I don't really know now what even write about, but I probably should start somewhere to kick this thing off.
Well, not much to say now, I guess. So, probably should start from the beginning.
This is the VVitchour project - hobby game of mine with which I really want to dive deep into gamedev process and try to learn and make something of my own. With 3D, and gameplay mechanics, and animations, and music, etc. The whole shebang! From start to finish. I could probably share a lot of my misfortunes and dumb-dumb decisions made along the way. It's easier, I guess, for me - to check progress from time to time (and when you're doing something alone, I noticed, you can't really realize that you got good at something, no one to pat you on the back sort of), to share, get some feedback even (if I'm lucky).
The game is about a witch, living in a hut in a forest, helping or mischieving folks living around. I planned a BIG list of stuff I could litter this game with, but for now I sorted it into separate mechanics and patches, that I could work on iteratively, building this simulator of mine. And, yes, I know that's not that unique of an idea, but I haven't seen a lot of meditative, 3D simulators with witches, and brewing, and patting your black cat on a long rainy evenings with a cup of... witchy tea. And wanted to give it a go.
I chose Unreal (yet another Unreal game) just to try and dive into the engine and, if I'll need it, some C++. I read that you CAN tune up this beast for the kind of game you're making - disable this, change that, if needed, alter some parts you want, so... I was tempted to try it out.
Other stuff is pretty usual - Blender, Krita for prototyping and making props and stuff. Visual Studio for coding, Blueprints for gameplay logic, yada-yada...
Well, I guess, that's enough for introductory post, right? I'll come back with some cringy stuff soon to leave some updates on potion brewing gameplay mechanics and post pictures of some of the worst 3D models ever existed :P
Y'all Have a good day!
